This is a summary of the terms you are required to agree to in order to make a purchase.

These terms, along with those detailed under ‘terms’, ‘privacy’ and ‘refunds and returns’ on our website, constitute our conditions of purchase.   Please contact us via email prior to purchase with any issues requiring clarification. 

  • Consumer rights: Modern Retro Textiles is owned and operated in New South Wales, Australia.  You are therefore protected by applicable consumer rights and legislation when making a purchase.
  • Purpose: The buyer agrees to use the products only for their intended purpose. Sewing patterns clearly state that they are subject to copyright and should not be manufactured for on-selling.  Any other use will cause the buyer to assume full responsibility for any loss or damage arising out of their use.  
  • Confirmation of order: All orders placed are an offer of purchase and are subject availability as outlined in our terms.  In the unlikely event that stock is unavailable a full refund will be provided at the earliest possible convenience. We reserve the right to refuse an offer of purchase for any reason.
  • Payment: Goods will not be posted until payment has cleared.  In the case of ‘send a cheque’, this means the clearing of funds represented by the cheque.  The same applies to direct transfer of money to our bank account.
  • Advice and information: The advice and information contained within this website is of a general nature and is not intended to constitute or replace professional advice for individual or specific conditions.
  • Links to other websites:  Modern retro textiles adds links to other web sites but makes no representations as to the accuracy of the material therein, and is not responsible for the content and conduct of these sites.
  • International purchases and postage: Modern Retro Textiles is not responsible for customs charges and restrictions that vary from country to country and result from the importation of certain products. The purchaser remains responsible for all charges and fees incurred. 
  • Postage: goods lost in the post will not be replaced by Modern Retro Textiles.  Registered post is a recommended option available at extra cost.

Postage

In Australia

All parcels sent using our free post offer will be sent by regular mail. Unfortunately we do not refund if an item goes missing in the post, but we will lodge an inquiry concerning non-delivery with Australia Post for you.

 

If you would prefer registered post (recommended), please select this as an option through the checkout process and an additional charge of $2.80 will apply.  Registered post offers compensation up to $100.  Extra cover (formally insurance) for registered post is available for $1.25 for every additional $100.   You will be required to sign for your parcel on delivery / collection from the post office.

 

Shipping overseas

We do ship overseas.  Our website will automatically calculate shipping for INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS to the UK, Europe, US, Canada, New Zealand, Japan and Singapore (prior to your entering your details).  Payment is by PayPal only for International customers.  Where the price paid for postage significantly exceeds to actual cost of postage, Modern Retro Textiles will refund a portion of the cost at our discretion.

 

For countries not listed for postage, please email us for a quote with details of what you would like to purchase and your country for delivery. 

 

'Patterns only postage' from $2.05 any where in the world

(INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS ONLY)

Sewing patterns can be shipped cheaply in a flat envelope, any where in the world.  Thus we have created the 'patterns only postage'.  Some patterns weigh less than 50g and can be posted for $2.05 (or $1.40 to Asia).  Most patterns weigh over 50g and can be posted for $4.10 (or $2.80 to Asia).  Depending on weight, 2-3 patterns will cost $6.15 (or $4.20 to Asia) any where in the world.  Our website will calculate postage automatically depending on the weight of your order, before you have to enter any personal or payment details.  If you are just buying patterns, please select the 'patterns postage only international' during checkout for these prices.

Refunds and Returns

Change of mind

We all occasionally change our mind!  We will happily accept returns within 7 days of receipt  on purchases with the exclusion of patterns / books, sale items or where specifically stated.  Items can be returned for a refund, exchange or store credit.  All returned products must be returned unused, in original packaging, in the same condition as sold, and in saleable condition.  Please note that you will need to cover all return postage costs in these circumstances.

 

When returning products which are not faulty, contact us via email as soon as possible, as they must be returned to us within 1 week of you receiving your order.  You will be given details of where to return the products.  Please return the products by registered post.   Ensure all products are well packaged so they are not damaged in the post.  You are responsible for delivering returned products securely and in good condition back to us. 

 

Faulty Items

In the unlikely event that your purchase is faulty, please contact us via email as soon as possible and preferably within 2 weeks of receiving your order. We will then organise a replacement to be sent out to you or a refund as soon as possible upon return of the faulty item. If a product is no longer available, we will need to provide a refund.  Please allow up to 14 days to process all refunds. We will cover postage costs in these circumstances.

 

All returned products must be returned unused and in the same condition as sold.  Please return the products by registered post and enclose the postal receipt for your reimbursement. You are responsible for delivering returned products securely back to us.

How you can pay

All prices are in Australian dollars (AUD$).

 

We accept Cheques, Money Orders and Direct Debit from Australian buyers, as well as, PaPpal which accepts most major credit cards. We only accept PayPal from international buyers.

 

Direct Debit: Our bank account details will be shown at checkout.  You can then transfer the money to our account.  The funds can take several days to be received into our account.  Your purchase will be sent as soon as funds are received.  If a payment is not received within 7 business days, customers will be contacted and then cancelled after 14 business days.  Outstanding orders cannot be held in the system due to lack of payment.


Cheques and Money Orders (Australian customers only): Cheques from Australian banks or Australian Post Money Orders denominated in Australian dollars, please make payable to Modern Retro Textiles and use your order number as a reference.  Your order will be sent as soon as the money order has been received or once your cheque / funds cleared.  These should be sent to PO Box 317 Cremorne NSW 2090.

 
Paypal / Credit Cards (Australian and International Customers): Most credit cards are accepted via PayPal.  An internationally accepted secure online payment system. It's all about the fabric

Unless otherwise stated, fabric is 100% cotton and of exceptional quality, commonly referred to as quilting fabric.

 

Measurements available and cut

The price displayed for fabric is for one metre (in Australian dollars).  However fabric is sold in 0.25 metre increments (also the minimum amount).  Simply type 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1 or 1.25 etc in the quantity field and the price will adjust automatically.  Fabric will be cut to length straight from the bolt. 

 

If you have other special requirements for size of fabric please make contact via email to see if we can help.

 

There may be exceptions to this where fabric is specified to be sold by the piece, for a set price, particularly in the case of vintage fabrics.

 

Fat Quarters available on request

A fat quarter is approximately 50cm x 56cm.  If you order fabric in a 0.25 increment and would prefer it cut as a fat quarter  e.g. 50cm in length and half the width of the bolt, please indicate your preference during checkout.

 

Weight and Width

Fabric is usually classified as either light to medium weight or heavy weight. The light to medium weight fabric is suitable to quilting, clothes, softies (children’s soft toys) and may require interfacing or other support for bags and home décor projects.  The width of fabric will be noted; however, light weight fabric is usually 113cm or 44-45 inches wide.  Heavy weight fabric is well suited to projects requiring stronger fabric, such as bags and light home furnishings / upholstery.  Although it is soft enough for fashion and quilting.  This fabric is usually 137cm - 145cm or 55 inches wide.

 

Colours

Pictures of fabric have been provided by or taken from the fabric and pattern designers websites, or photographed and put onto the site.  Of course they are not altered, however, may display slightly differently from one computer screen to another for example - very dark colours may appear slightly darker on screen, and very light colours slightly lighter.

 

Product Availability

All products listed on our website are held in stock; however, as we sell via catalogues, fabric parties and at markets there may be some occasions where a product has been sold elsewhere before it can be updated on our website (updates will occur as soon as possible and usually on the day of sale).  In the unlikely event that you make a purchase and then the stock is unavailable, we will contact you and make an immediate refund or discuss restock times if you are interested in this option.  If you require a larger quantity than what is available, please contact us and we can advise a restock date on the product you require.

 

Care

Most fabric is 100% cotton as listed should be machine washed cool and tumble dried low.  Most projects suggest prewashing prior to sewing to allow for shrinkage.

How to buy

  • Browse through the products.
  • Click on ‘more details’ for further information and photos of products of interest.
  • Click the love heart to add products to your own favourites list, which you can return to later to purchase (up to 7 days), delete or do nothing!
  • To purchase, select the quantity – in 0.25 metre increments or number of items required, which ever is applicable.
  • Click the shopping trolley to add the purchase to your ‘shopping basket’.  A window will appear with a summary of what you want to add to the basket with the adjusted cost, depending on length / quantity.
  • Select ‘cancel’ to cancel or ‘add to basket’ to continue with purchase.  This information will be stored in your shopping cart until you have completed shopping.  You can continue browsing products and adding products to your basket if required.  All products can be removed or quantity’s changed from the shopping basket up until your order is confirmed.
  • To finalise your purchases, simply click on ‘go to checkout’ where a total order price will be given again before you proceed with payment.
  • Clicking on 'go to checkout' take you to the next step, allowing you to select your postage option (free post ect, as above).
  • Clicking on "Secure check out" will connect you to our secure ordering system.  You will be asked to accept our terms and conditions.  You will then be directed to a page to provide your details for delivery (address, phone, email, note to us re fat quarters if applicable ect) and your payment option.  This information will be sent to modern retro textiles.
  • If you choose to pay by credit card you will be redirected to the paypal site, separate to modern retro textiles, who will process your payment and forward the funds to us.  We do not receive your credit card details.
  • You may cancel the secure order process at any time during the ordering process until you click on the "Send Order" button.  No details will be passed on to us, until you click on the "Send Order" button.
